How Poker Leagues in Zynga Poker Work

Your position in leagues is determined by how many chips you win during the league.

You are ranked on a leaderboard based on your winnings. Note that it doesn’t matter if you lose chips while winning them. Only the total chips won during a league determines your league position.

Each tier also has five divisions you need to pass up to get to the next tier. The world champion league works differently, though. I will explain how it works later.

League Perks

Each league rank has certain perks. You mostly get extra chips when spinning the slot machines in the game. You also get more chips when buying them.

The following table shows the exact league changes. At least since I last looked in the game.

Leagues Change How Poker Stakes Work

The game lets you play whatever stakes you want if you have the chips. But you will get bonus league points if you play the specific stakes for your current league.

The game will show you whether you get bonus league points when selecting stakes. Being in higher leagues requires playing higher stakes to get bonus league points.

The League Zones

Each league has three zones. There are the Red, Yellow, and green zones.

  • While in the Red zone, you will drop to the league below your current if you don’t get into the yellow zone.
  • In the Yellow zone, you will stay in your current league if you remain in it at the end of the week.
  • You need to get into the green zone to move up in league.

The size of each zone changes as you move up in league divisions. The Yellow and Green zones are smaller in higher leagues!

This forces more competition among the players to stay in these spots.

How You Move up and Down in League Positions

You move up and down in league divisions after about a week or so. You need to win chips to move up in league divisions.

If you win a certain number of chips, the game will instantly move you up into a new league division. You will not have to wait a whole week to advance. It is nice there is the option to catch up if you have not played in a long time.

How the World Champion League Works

The world champions league is a bit more special than the other leagues. Only the best 500 players in the game that is currently in Champions 5 can be on this leaderboard.

To stay in this league, you need to win enough chips to be in the top 500 players. If you want to show off, this is a way to do so!

Why Do Poker Leagues Matter?

Leagues are an excellent way to rank players on skill and bankroll size. You know the players in the World Champions are the best. Only the current best 500 players are in that league. I like showing off how good of a poker player I am.

You also get more rewards from being in higher leagues. These rewards will help you get extra chips to play poker.

My Poker Leagues Strategy

The main thing to remember is that leagues become more challenging as you move up.

Instead of getting into the highest league possible, I find a league I can stay in and focus on doing that. I would rather be consistent instead of trying to be ambitious in the game.

Of course, you are free to do what you want. But I find it funny seeing people get to the top of leadeboards with massive chip wins. But when I check their chip stacks, they have little or, in some cases, zero chips. They won the battle but lost the war.

In some lower leagues, I win by playing as I usually do. I don’t even need to do anything special. That is the power of focusing on growing my chip bankroll first and playing safe stakes. I don’t impress anyone. But I am not going broke anytime soon, either.

If your current stakes have you scared to lose, then the stakes are too high.
