The Other King Match-Three Game
King doesn’t just make Candy Crush. They also make Farm Heroes Saga. Another match-three game.
In this post, I am going to review the game.
Game Review Information
I have played this game years ago. I recently started to play the game again to see what has changed and to write a review. I wrote a review on the sequel, so I figured I write a review on the original game as well.
At the time of writing this review I was on level 209.
Gameplay Review
How Farm Heroes Saga Works
In Farm Heroes Saga, the main goal is the collect cropsies. You make matches to collect more of them. Unlike in other similar match-three games, you don’t create powerups.
Making matches that would normally create powerups instead upgrades cropsies. Making a match of five or more cropsies removes them all.
All the levels have the same goals and, you need to collect cropsies. There are a few other goals in the game. You also grow flowers and hatch eggs, but your main focus is farming.
I Enjoyed the Game a Lot
The game was quite more fun than I remembered. Once I got started, I wanted to keep going. I was enjoying myself a lot.
I found myself enjoying this game more compared to other recent King games I have played.
Levels Have Interesting Obstacles
I like the obstacles in the levels, and they feel quite unique. It seems like King experimented and tried different things here when compared to some of the Candy Crush games.
Boosters Are Fun to Use
The boosters you can use in levels recharge after a while.
You get to use them after waiting so long. I think that is very neat, and it feels very fair for players. It means I can use them and not treating them like a rare resource.
The Animal Helpers Are Neat
After playing the game for a while, you can unlock animals you can bring into levels and help you. These animal friends perform various helpful things.
I think the “hitter” ones are very funny. They smack around various things in levels to help you.
I like these critters, and this is a very neat concept, and I wish more match-three games would use this idea.
King will repeat this concept in a future game. Candy Crush Friends Saga. Another match-three game Meow Match also does something similar.
Other Gameplay Thoughts
Like most modern King games, the events are quite fun.
Some of the levels feel extremely hard. There are always levels like this in King match-three games. But this game seems to be on the harder side.
You only get so many free boosters to use as well. So some levels stop all progress until you can slowly, painfully beat them. Running out of boosters is quite frustrating, but I guess it is just a part of the game.
How the Game Looks
For being an old game, Farm Heroes Saga looks quite good. The artwork has a more simple look, and I like it. This style does not look dated, and it still looks good.
The cropsies are quite expressive and cute.
How the Game Sounds
The game sounds OK. It doesn’t hurt my ears, I suppose. The music is OK, but I can’t say I like it too much.
Farm Heroes is a game that plays about the same for me when it is muted.
How Does This Game Get You to Spend Money?
The game sells gold bars. The game has the usual things you see in King games. Powerups, boosters, continuing levels.
Is This Game Fair for People Who Don’t Spend Money?
Somewhat. Without constant use of boosters, some levels are intense and will take a long time to beat.
How Does This Game Annoy You?
Compared to the other Candy Crush games, I recently played not as much.
There are no ads. The game does not try to get you to buy things too often. It is quite refreshing that the game lets you play it and focus on doing that.
There are life-timers as in every King game. I still dislike waiting for these.
My Overall Thoughts on Farm Heroes Saga
Farm Heroes Saga is a surprisingly fun game, and I am glad I went back and gave it a second chance. I enjoyed playing the game despite how some levels are very hard.
Do I Recommend People Play Farm Heroes Saga?
Yes. If you like match-three games, I would recommend Farm Heroes Saga. I think it is more fun than some of the other match-three games made by King.
Will I Keep Playing Farm Heroes Saga?
Yes. I plan on writing content about Farm Heroes Saga, and I enjoy playing it.
